The NoCo Deliberative Journalism Project is a developing project initiated by the CSU Center for Public Deliberation (CPD), the Fort Collins Coloradoan, and the Journalism and Media Communication and the Political Science Departments at Colorado State University. Initial funding for this project — covering events being held this fall — are provided by a grant from the American Press Institute.

We hope it will grow from these initial collaborators to include other NoCo newsrooms and journalists, additional academics from CSU and other institutions, public libraries, and community engagement and data staff in the various local governments. The overall idea is to work together to improve local journalism and our local information ecosystem (how information about local issues is gathered, shared, and engaged with). An initial potential collaborators meeting was held in October for journalists, academics, librarians, and government staff. At that meeting, we discussed an initial draft of six key tasks the project may focus on.

We hope you will join us on November 17th for this first public meeting to introduce the project and begin the process of gathering feedback from community members.  If you are unable to join us on November 17, you are still welcome to complete this survey. We may announce additional opportunities to rerun the meeting based on interest. The survey will also allow you to indicate whether you’d like to stay informed about potential future meetings for this project.

Questions about the project can be directed to Martin Carcasson at mcarcas@colostate.edu
