LWVUS Launches New Programmatic Focus
Earlier this month, the League of Women Voters announced Women Power Democracy, a strategic initiative intended to bolster the organization's mission of empowering voters and defending democracy. This new focus will promote voting rights and engagement nationwide through four programs:
- Democracy Truth Project: Countering mis- and disinformation and fostering a better understanding of democratic and electoral processes.
- Expand the Franchise: Increasing voter participation through VOTE411.org as well as registration, education and mobilization events, with a focus on underrepresented populations and low-propensity voters.
- Democracy Defense Fund: Protecting voting rights and advancing a more equitable democracy through advocacy.
- People Powered Fair Maps™: Creating fair, transparent electoral map-drawing processes and eliminating partisan and racial gerrymandering during 2021 redistricting.
“Women Power Democracy’s four-pronged approach will build more trust in our elections, grow our electorate, establish fair voter access and ensure community districting truly reflects our population,” Virginia Kase Solomón, CEO of the League of Women Voters of the United States, said.
