Anti-LGBTQIA+ State Legislative Trends

This year we have seen an unprecedented number of legislative attacks on the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, asexual and other sexual and gender minority (LGBTQIA+) individuals, particularly transgender (trans) and non-binary youth.  These attacks, accompanied and "justified" by false pathologizing narratives about LGBTQIA+ people have devasting consequences for the community's physical and psychological well being.
 
 

Judge Blocks Part of Florida's Restrictive Voting Law Targeting Nonpartisan Civic Engagement Groups

Tallahassee, FL - On Monday, a federal judge temporarily blocked enforcement of portions of Florida's anti voter law, SB 7050.  The order comes after three sets of plaintiffs including individual Florida residents, the Florida State Conference of the NAACP, Hispanic Federation, Poder Latinx, and the League of Women Voters of Florida (LWVFL), challenged the law in court and sought emergency relief.

The legislature's nonpartisan lawyers warn that House Bill 1306 won't necessarily prevent lawsuits and highlighted a host of potential loopholes in the policy.
 
A bipartisan bill passed this year by Colorado lawmakers that purports to let state officials block people on social media for any reason, as long as their accounts aren't "supported by the resources of state government," may be a lot harder to use than it seems - and may not even be constitutional.
