Invitation from James Willard, Deputy Engagement Director, Giffords:

I would like to invite you to a survivor focused training led by Giffords and Survivors Empowered in Denver on Friday, September 8th. This will be an important training created specifically with the needs of survivors in mind, and Gabby Giffords will be there.

As a survivor-led organization, we take the needs of those most directly impacted by gun violence seriously, which is why we created our Survivors Toolkit in collaboration with Survivors Empowered. After their daughter Jessi was killed in the Aurora movie theater shooting in 2011, Sandy & Lonnie Phillips founded Survivors Empowered to make sure that no other survivors would go through that brutal experience alone like they did.

The training is based on this toolkit, and aims to give survivors the skills they need to find peace in the wake of tragedy and, potentially, take the next step of turning their pain into activism. With this goal in mind, the all-day event will be a valuable training for any survivor or survivor-focused organization looking to improve their advocacy.

This training is for survivors and organizations that work with survivors.

Please join us on Friday, September 8, in Denver for an in-depth training, an opportunity to meet with Gabby Giffords, and a reception.

ERPO Hotline Goes Live

Under Senate Bill 23-170 the Colorado Information Analysis Center (CIAC) established and is staffing a 24/7 Extreme Risk Protection Order (ERPO) Hotline to receive and refer calls from the public. The hotline provides information on the process to file for an order and relevant resources.

The hotline will not provide legal advice or serve as an avenue for an individual to file a petition for a temporary order. The hotline will not advise callers on the consequences related to the filing or false filing of a petition for a temporary ERPO.  The hotline may refer callers to the appropriate venue to file the order for further information concerning the results of filing the order.
